An Open Letter to Our Australian and Japanese Readers

Hey everyone;

I'd like to post a quick reminder, and then shortly thereafter, ask for your help. As you may or may not already know, The Get Up Kids will be doing a brief tour of Australia, followed by three dates in Japan. The dates will be listed below, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you what great shows these will be. You're obviously here because you love the band, or at the very least have a passing interest in them, and if you have never seen them live, you are most certainly missing out. The Get Up Kids are famous for putting on an incredibly energetic and fun live show that could never be replicated by anything on this or any other site.

That said, here comes the part where I ask for your help. Now that the band has re-united, there is a new opportunity to make new live recordings of concerts for fans to have and enjoy, and you have the ability to help make that happen. There are countless places on the internet where you can find tips to help you record a concert, and many techniques available are rather low-maintenance. Any recordings made would be greatly appreciated, and as you know I always make a point to credit the original recorder and submitter whenever that information is available. You have the power to help this archive grow even more.

As I said before, the tour dates will be listed below. But first, I have a few VERY important notes:

1.) The Get Up Kids have always been extremely accommodating to their fans. If anything, this site is living proof of their willingness to help people who love their music. That being said, PLEASE do not take this as me saying "don't go to the concert, since it may be here later anyway." Not only is there no guarantee that that the show will even be recorded, but nothing will ever be able to replicate the experience of a live show. The vast majority of money made by bands comes from concert ticket sales and, especially in festival settings, merch sales. This site exists to give fans the broadest experience possible, but it also comes with the implication that you are supporting the band financially as well. So go to the show, buy a T-shirt or two and have some fun. If you record the show, that's great. If not, that's okay too. Just have a good time and continue using this site with the knowledge that you are helping support a great band.

2.) I make this request as a fan, but I must stress how important it is to look out for your personal safety. The Get Up Kids have said before that they are fine with fan bootlegs, but the same cannot always be said for venues. If you attend a show at a venue that explicitly forbids bootlegging, DO NOT RISK YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY TO RECORD THE SHOW. While many of us would enjoy hearing the concert, I cannot endorse any course of action that would get you in trouble or thrown out of a concert. It is also important to note that I make this request with little to no understanding of the legality of bootlegging concert in your country. Here in the United States, there seems to be a general rule of thumb that says if it is okay with the band, and it isn't sold, it's okay. However, I tried to do some research, but I couldn't find anything definitive on the legality of bootlegs in either Australia or Japan. PLEASE, if you plan on recording a show, look into the laws regarding doing so in your country. I do not advocate breaking any laws to get this content. That isn't to say it is illegal in either of those countries, I just want to make it clear that I do not endorse any criminal activity to procure these bootlegs. Mostly it's just to cover my ass as well as yours. Just remember to be safe and have a good time.

With that said, here are the concert dates. I have included a link to each show's page on last.fm where you can get more information, buy tickets, and more.
